La Cassaigne

La Cassaigne is not far from the local arts centre of Fanjeaux and the historic circular town of Bram on the Canal du Midi. In Mirepoix the Place de Couverts is famed for its 13 century covered arcades and its magnificent cathedral. Castelnaudary, arguably home of the local dish cassoulet, is 16 kms distant.

The Region

Walking, bicycling, horse riding, rafting, canoeing, bird watching, visiting historical monuments; there is something for everyone in the untamed countryside of the Midi Pyrenees where wild life and flowers abound.

It is in the Aude that you find the region of Malepere. Explore the vineyards and sample the Fitou and Minervois wines. An abundance of restaurants offer the best of local cuisine.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region is the land of the Cathars and the Knights Templar. The high peak of Montsegur, crowned with the ruins of the castle, is the most famous symbol of Cathar resistance.

Visit the fortified and romantic city of Carcassonne rising above the plain. Take a barge on the Canal du Midi. The Pyrenees offers skiing in winter, walking in summer. There are golf courses at both Carcassonne and Foix.
